What we collect

When you use the quote engine we record the registration plate you entered, the location you gave, and the vehicle details the New Zealand register returned for that plate. This happens whether or not you go on to accept an offer.

When you press Get an offer, your registration plate and phone number are emailed to our office straight away, so we can call you about an offer even if you do not finish the form.

If you accept an offer or ask for a manual valuation we also collect your name, phone number, email address, the address the vehicle is at, your preferred pickup date, any photos you upload, and the bank account the payment goes to.

Why we collect it

To price the vehicle, to arrange collection, to pay you, and to file the change of ownership with Waka Kotahi. We also use plate lookups in aggregate to work out which vehicles our calculator handles badly.

We do not sell your information, and we do not pass it to third party marketers.

Bank account details

Account details are stored separately from the rest of your booking and are not readable through this website or any of our apps. They are used once, to pay you, and are not included in any email we send.

Who else sees it

Vehicle data comes from CarJam, which sources it from the Waka Kotahi motor vehicle register. Ownership changes are filed with Waka Kotahi. Our email and hosting providers process data on our behalf under contract.

How long we keep it

Records of completed purchases are kept for seven years, which is what the Land Transport (Motor Vehicle Registration and Licensing) rules and our tax obligations require. Quotes that are never accepted are kept for twelve months and then deleted.

Your rights

Under the Privacy Act 2020 you can ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it if it is wrong. Email us and we will respond within twenty working days.
