Car Valuation

After the truck leaves
The paperwork
We file the change of ownership with Waka Kotahi on the day of collection. From that point the vehicle is not your responsibility, and any unpaid registration on it stops being your problem.
What happens to the car
Usable parts are pulled and go back into circulation locally. Fluids, batteries and tyres are removed and handled separately. What is left is baled and goes to a steel mill.

Weight is the floor. On top of that sits how old it is, what the make is worth in parts, and how far the truck has to travel. That is the whole calculation, and you can see the lines it was built from before you accept.

How fast can you pick the car up?
Anywhere within 40 km of our Seaview yard is same day or next working day. That covers Wellington, the Hutt Valley, Porirua, Paraparaumu and Featherston. Further out, Waikanae to Foxton and the rest of the Wairarapa, is within two working days because we run those routes on set days.
What do I need to have ready?
The car needs to be registered under your name in order to sell it, or you have the authority to sell it on the owner's behalf.
Does the car need a current WOF or registration?
No. Expired WOF, expired registration and deregistered vehicles are all normal for us. It does not reduce the offer on a scrap vehicle.
When do I actually get the money?
The transfer is sent from the driver at your address before the car goes on the truck. Same day for most New Zealand banks, next business day if you bank with a different institution than ours.
Can I sell a car that is not in my name?
Only if you can show you are entitled to sell it, for example a letter from the estate or from the registered owner. We check the plate against the Waka Kotahi record before we quote, and we cannot buy a vehicle reported stolen.
